Hi everyone. I know it's past time for an update, so here goes. We are slowly getting settled in and getting boxes unpacked. Billy headed to the university yesterday to get into his office but no one was there to let him in. he went back there nearly two hours ago so I'm assuming he got in his office this time, and hopefully is getting the books for his fall classes. We have managed to misplace his Java book - imagine that, losing something in all this mess.
We have the cars registered with ND, and I put the plates on my car this morning. I'll do the van when Billy gets back. We saw the new harry Potter movie last night. Neither of us liked the theater, Billy liked the movie, but I didn't. The books are always better in my opinion. We visited a Methodist church Sunday and I liked it. Billy didn't care for the pastor, said he was too informal. Their regular pastor is on sabbatical for the summer and will be back in Sept. We liked it well enough to go back. We also saw Billy's Dept Head there.
The electrician came yesterday and grounded two of our outlets, one downstairs for Billy and one upstairs for me. I don't like that electrician. He knocked and walked right in, without waiting for someone to answer the door. That may be how it's done in ND, but I don't like it. My cousin Philip once walked into my moms house without knocking, just walked in. I heard him, grabbed a knife, and went after him, before I realized who it was. That electrician better watch it. When he was showing us the labeling he had done in the breaker box he flipped a breaker and cut power to my computer (grrr). Thankfully it was plugged into a battery backup and all he did was make the battery backup complain.
Our DSL was flaky for a few days, but has stabilized and seems to be pretty good. It's not as fast as what we had in Chatt, but it will do.
We will be ordering a tracfone (I need to go on and do that) to use as a land line. We also need to get Sabrina a new tag, and I need to order checks. Billy has had problems with a couple of his credit cards, they still have TN as the billing address. he's had to make calls on them twice from local businesses...
The power was out in the front room from the time my mom left until yesterday. The problem was a tripped GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter). All we had to do was push the little button on the switch place and presto, power restored to the living room. Billy said he should have realized the problem, and if it had been in the bathroom he would have. A GFI is used to interrupt the circuit when something happens like a hairdryer getting dropped (or thrown) into a full bathtub. Apparently someone was worried that someone would try to take a bath and dry their hair in the living room of this house. Oh well, live and learn.
Sabrina is slowly adjusting. She jumps and runs if we startle her, and I have a great picture of her cowering in a kitchen cabinet the first time she heard the electric garage door open. Most of our stairs are carped, but the last three into the kitchen are hardwood. Sabrina has a time with those three stairs, especially if she's moving fast. She has so much fur growing out from between her toes that she has no traction at all. It's interesting to see her back half slide around while her front half is doing its best to get up those stairs.
We have met one neighbor, Lena. She's older, and is a nut (in a good, funny way). She gave us a couple of potted flowers for the front yard. Yesterday she brought one of her sons and his wife over to meet us. They asked if they could leave their contact info with us, in case we needed to reach them about Lena. So we have names and phone numbers for two sons and one daughter-in-law, and they have out phone number and my e-mail address. Lena is being treated for early Alzheimer's. Her family wants her to go into a nursing home, but so far she is resisting. We will watch out for her, and I told the family to call us if they ever need us to go check on her.
Billy is still at the univ so apparently he is getting a lot done (I hope). We still need to get ND drivers licenses. Oh yes, we had deadbolts put on the doors last week. I'll let everyone know when I get some pictures up on facebook. So far we haven't taken many, except for the damage to our stuff. We are still trying to decided what to do about that and who is going to talke to the people. That's all for now!
